BACOLOD City – An early morning flash flood hit northern Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day.
In Victorias City, 1,508 persons from 12 barangays in Victorias City were evacuated.
Victorias City Councilor Francis Frederick “Derek” Palanca Jr. said five barangays are “critically” affected.
These are Barangays 1, 7, 9, 13, and 19A.
He said water in these areas “rose to waist deep”.
The flood that started around 1 a.m. due to heavy rains in the upland areas that triggered the river to overflow.
In Silay City a netizen asked via social media for rescue as they were trapped in the second floor of their house due to the rising flood water
As of press time the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office is yet to issue an official report on the flooding.
