New stormwater system benefits 8,000 in Iloilo City

Around 8,800 residents of USWAG subdivision and adjacent areas are poised for relief following the inauguration of a 563-meter stormwater drainage system in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, Iloilo City.

Officials conducted the ceremony on Thursday, April 18, celebrating the completion of a significant infrastructure project aimed at curtailing flooding and minimizing health risks.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Incentive Fund program funded the project, amassing ₱7 million.

Following Iloilo City’s attainment of the SGLG status in 2022, the project concluded in December 2023.

Attending the inaugural event were DILG-6 Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero, City Director Oscar Lim, key local government figures, including Maria Mathilde Treñas, the Mayor’s Special Assistant, and SK Federation President Jelma Implica, along with barangay officials and personnel.

“The community’s welfare is paramount, and I trust this project will be well-maintained,” Ingeniero remarked.

He also praised the project’s contributors, highlighting the rapid and effective implementation.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, through Ms. Mathilde Treñas, expressed gratitude toward the DILG for spearheading the initiative, underlining the SGLG Incentive Fund’s role in backing significant projects like the drainage system.

Treñas extended thanks to the city government’s staff, recognizing their diligence and commitment as foundational to the city’s accomplishments.

He also noted that the city’s accolades affirm the stellar performance and probity of its governance.

Under Republic Act 11292, the SGLG Act of 2019, local governments exemplifying exceptional governance are awarded monetary incentives.
