Students and teachers of Leganes National High School in Barangay Guinobatan, Leganes, Iloilo now have additional classrooms following the completion of a new two-story, four-classroom building delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The PHP 15.671 million project, implemented by the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Education, includes ventilation, comfort rooms, emergency exit stairs, and a ramp for persons with disabilities.
Citing a report from District Engineer Mario G. Soriano, DPWH Western Visayas OIC-Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto said the new structure will augment existing school facilities and address the need for additional classrooms to help close learning gaps and ensure equal opportunities for students.
“Leganes National High School serves as the key learning institution in the town, accepting a larger number of enrollees each year, which leads to a lack of classrooms,” Fruto said.
“Hence, providing additional classrooms is necessary to help achieve academic excellence,” he added.
Fruto said the new school building will provide a more conducive learning environment that can improve student attendance, engagement, and academic performance, while also enhancing teacher satisfaction and retention.
Soriano emphasized that the additional classrooms are essential to creating optimal learning conditions and supporting the holistic development of students and staff of Leganes National High School.
“This well-designed school building can significantly improve student attendance, engagement, and academic performance, while also enhancing teacher satisfaction and retention,” Soriano said.
The DPWH said high-quality school buildings contribute to better instruction, improved student performance, and lower dropout rates, adding that the agency continues to build classrooms nationwide to address shortages and boost the morale of teachers and students.
