BACOLOD CITY — A heated altercation over a land dispute led to the death of a 44-year-old man after he was allegedly hacked by his nephew in Purok 5, Barangay Basak, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Saturday.
Police Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao, chief of the Cauayan Municipal Police Station, said the victim was drinking coconut wine at a relative’s house when he saw his 26-year-old nephew passing by.
The victim reportedly confronted the suspect about the latter’s cultivated farm lot, sparking an argument.
The suspect allegedly took a bolo and struck his uncle in the nape.
The victim was declared dead at a hospital.
Garinganao said the farmland had been a long-standing issue between the two relatives.
Homicide charges will be filed against the suspect, who is currently under police custody.
