BACOLOD CITY — Police are preparing murder charges against a 44-year-old man for allegedly shooting and killing his 67-year-old aunt in Barangay Nataban, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026.
Police Lt. Col. Nazer Canja, chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the victim was preparing dinner in an outdoor kitchen at her home when her nephew allegedly shot her.
The victim’s child later found her with gunshot wounds to the forehead and chin.
She died at the scene, according to Canja.
Police are investigating a family land dispute as the possible motive behind the killing.
Canja said the disputed property had been surveyed Wednesday, Oct. 28, for its planned division.
He added that disagreements had reportedly arisen among family members over the division and ownership of the property.
The suspect was later arrested in the same barangay, but police have yet to recover the 12-gauge shotgun allegedly used in the shooting.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as they prepare to file murder charges against the suspect.
