Negros town cop sacked for drug use

BACOLOD City – A police non-commissioned officer in Negros Occidental who recently tested positive for illegal drug use was relieved from his post at Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station effective Saturday, October 26.

Police Captain Hancel Lumandaz, town police chief, said the relief order was issued by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) against 32-year-old Police Corporal Joey Silao of Dumangas, Iloilo province.

Lumandaz said Silao was directed to report to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU)-6 in Iloilo City today, Oct 27.

He (Silao) will be placed on floating status while facing an investigation, the town police chief added.

Lumandaz also said that Silao was ordered to surrender his government-issued firearm and badge.

He said Silao already received the relief order over the weekend.

He said it was the first time he reached Silao through phone after the latter failed to communicate with him following the results of the drug test for his promotion.

He said Silao told him that he was busy with his court hearings the reason why he failed to report back to work.

Lumandaz said he will file an absent without official leave (Awol) status against Silao.

Silao, a desk officer of the said police station, was applying for a promotion early this month when he was found to be positive for drug use during a drug test.

Earlier, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, Nocppo director, said he is recommending the dismissal of the said police officer from the police service, as he does not tolerate such offense among his personnel in the province.
