BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Press Club (NPC) has called on the police to thoroughly investigate the harassment of a 59-year-old radio blocktimer whose house was fired upon by unidentified assailants in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on April 20.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Wednesday, the NPC, the oldest press club in the country and currently led by Mark Salanga, condemned the incident involving its past president, Reynaldo Siason of RPN-DYKB and DYRL Bacolod.
“NPC wishes the Philippine National Police (PNP) a speedy investigation and identification of the suspects behind the crime, as it causes fear and trauma to the lives of Siason and his family,” the statement read.
The club emphasized that it does not tolerate any form of intimidation, violence or threats toward its members.
Siason was about to sleep when gunshots rang out outside his home shortly before midnight.
The attack came six years after a similar incident occurred on Sept. 19, 2019.
Siason told police he suspects the shooting may be related to his work, citing previous death threats he received.
He also believes the same individuals may be responsible for both incidents.
Police investigation is ongoing.
