Negros Power releases tilapia fry into Malisbog River
Negros Power reinforced its environmental and community-development programs this August through a fingerlings release activity at the Malisbog River in Barangay Patag, Silay City.
The Aug. 11 initiative involved releasing tilapia fry into the river to support aquatic resource enhancement.
Negros Power also donated additional fingerlings to Bantay Bukid beneficiaries from Barangay Patag to provide livelihood support.
The activity brought together the Negros Power Management Committee, NEPC employees, Bantay Bukid beneficiaries and members of the local community.
The Silay City Government supported the initiative through Councilor Michael Maravilla.
The Silay City Environment and Natural Resources Office also participated through its representative, JP Maravilla.
Negros Power conducted the activity in partnership with ENRO Silay City and in support of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14, or Life Below Water.
SDG 14 calls for the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources, including the protection of ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable fisheries.
The initiative sought to promote aquatic biodiversity, sustainable fisheries and the protection of local waterways.
Its long-term benefits will depend on continued water-quality monitoring, responsible fishing practices and the suitability of the released species to the river ecosystem.
The activity formed part of Negros Power’s anniversary theme, “Stronger Together.”
The theme emphasizes collaboration among businesses, government agencies and communities in protecting the environment, supporting livelihoods and building a more sustainable future.
