Negros Power Helps NONECO Amid Blackout

Victorias City— Negros Electric and Power Corp (Negros Power) stepped in to provide a temporary power supply to Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) following a major blackout in northern Negros.

Over 30,000 consumers in the towns of EB Magalona and Manapla, as well as Victorias City, were left without electricity on October 15 after the 12.5 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) power transformer at NONECO’s Victorias substation failed.

In response to the outage, NONECO requested a 2-megawatt (MW) temporary power supply from Negros Power to alleviate the situation.

Negros Power swiftly approved the request after a thorough evaluation, connecting Feeder 3 of their Lopez substation to NONECO’s feeders in Barangay San Jose, EB Magalona.

“We understand the difficulties faced by our fellow industry player and neighbor, NONECO, and their consumers during this challenging time,” said Roel Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power.

“We didn’t hesitate to extend our support by providing them with 2 megawatts of temporary supply from our Lopez and Panaogao substations. We hope this will alleviate the inconvenience they are experiencing.”

Castro also assured that Negros Power will continue its support until NONECO fully restores operations at its Victorias substation.

He emphasized that Negros Power’s consumers would not be affected by this assistance, as the company has enough load capacity to meet the demand in its franchise area.

“We have sufficient load to meet the demand within our franchise area. However, we will closely monitor our substations to ensure a continuous and reliable power supply,” Castro added.

The aid from Negros Power is expected to ease the power crisis in the affected areas while NONECO works on restoring its systems.
