BAGO CITY, Negros Occidental — Negros Power energized Sitio Hibong in Barangay Don Jorge L. Araneta, Bago City, on May 16, 2026, extending electricity service to another remote community in Negros Occidental.
The project marked the 57th sitio energized under the company’s Sitio Electrification Program.
A total of 30 households in Sitio Hibong were connected to electricity, giving residents access to lighting, convenience, and new opportunities after a long wait for stable power.
Negros Power said its SEP has now energized 57 sitios across its franchise area.
The program has benefited 2,703 energized households out of 3,338 potential households identified for electrification.
The energized sitios are in Bacolod City, Silay City, Talisay City, Bago City, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto.
Under the program, Negros Power has installed 803 poles, energized 66 distribution transformers, and completed about 66.9 kilometers of conductors to bring electricity to remote communities.
The projects represent a combined transformer capacity of 2,383 kilovolt-amperes and a projected demand of 927 kilowatts.
Negros Power said it has invested PHP 52.38 million in the Sitio Electrification Program, underscoring its commitment to expanding electricity access and improving the lives of underserved communities.
Engr. Leomel H. Tambanillo, assistant vice president for Planning, Business Operations and Sitio Electrification Program and Negros Power spokesperson, said rural electrification remains important for communities with limited access to reliable power.
“Every sitio we energize represents hope and progress for the community. Through these projects, we are not only providing electricity but also opening more opportunities for education, livelihood, communication, and better living conditions for our fellow Negrenses,” Tambanillo said.
Residents expressed gratitude for the energization of Sitio Hibong.
They said electricity is expected to improve daily living conditions, help students study at night, enhance access to communication, and create better opportunities for livelihood and small businesses within the sitio.
Negros Power holds the franchise to establish, operate, and maintain an electric distribution system for end-users in Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, and Bago cities, and in the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental under Republic Act No. 12011.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed the law on July 26, 2024, granting Negros Electric and Power Corp. the authority to operate in the Central Negros franchise area and ensure continuous and uninterrupted electricity supply.
With Sitio Hibong now energized, Negros Power said it continues to move closer to its mission of bringing safe, reliable, and accessible power to more families across Central Negros.
