BACOLOD CITY — Fifty police personnel from across the Negros Island Region are undergoing basic drone training as the regional police office prepares them to use the technology in law enforcement and public safety work.
The training emphasizes safe handling and proper operation, giving personnel a foundation before they use drones in police activities. The regional office said the effort aims to improve operational readiness and police services through responsible use of technology.
The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region opened the three-day Basic Drone Operation Seminar on Oct. 20, 2026, at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office covered court in Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr., Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.
Police Lt. Col. Gaylord P. Tamayo led the activity together with Police Maj. Karena T. Onio.
The 50 participants came from the regional headquarters, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, Bacolod City Police Office, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion.
The seminar covers drone handling, flight controls, safety procedures, and proper operation through guided instruction and hands-on exercises.
Organizers said the lessons are intended to build participants’ knowledge, practical skills, and confidence, laying the groundwork for using drones in police operations and other public safety activities.
“Continuous learning and skills development are essential in strengthening our operational capabilities. By mastering the basics of drone operation, our personnel can better prepare themselves to use technology effectively in support of police operations and public safety,” Police Brig. Gen. Rudecindo L. Reales, regional police director, said.
