Negros Occidental, Bacolod inflation ease in January 2026

Inflation in Negros Occidental slowed to 0.7% in January 2026, while Bacolod City’s inflation eased to 1.1%, according to a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) inflation report presented Feb. 13, 2026.
The same report put January 2026 inflation at 2.0% for the Philippines and 0.8% for the Negros Island Region.
PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistics Office Supervising Statistical Specialist Diesah S. Biaoco presented the “Negros Occidental and Bacolod City Inflation Report, January 2026” during a 10 a.m. briefing on Feb. 13, 2026.
Inflation is the annual rate of change in consumer prices measured through the Consumer Price Index, which tracks the cost of a “basket” of commonly purchased goods and services over time.
In Negros Occidental, the province’s all-income household inflation moved from 1.2% in December 2025 to 0.7% in January 2026.
The province’s inflation path over the past year showed 2.7% in January 2025, 2.0% in February, 2.8% in March, 2.1% in April, 2.4% in May, 1.2% in June, 0.5% in July, -0.2% in August, 1.4% in September, 0.5% in October, 0.7% in November, 1.2% in December 2025, and 0.7% in January 2026.
PSA data flagged alcoholic beverages and tobacco as a major contributor to the January 2026 downtrend in Negros Occidental inflation, with its inflation slowing to 4.5% in January 2026 from 6.3% in December 2025 and accounting for 27.0% of the share to the downtrend.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages was another major contributor to the downtrend in Negros Occidental, with inflation easing to 0.2% in January 2026 from 1.0% in December 2025 and taking a 14.6% share to the downtrend.
Within Negros Occidental’s main sources of deceleration for all-income households, food and non-alcoholic beverages posted 0.2% inflation and a 55.0% percent share, while the “food” subcategory slowed to 0.0% in January 2026 from 0.7% in December 2025.
Transport recorded -0.8% inflation in January 2026 with a 30.1% percent share, and the “operation of personal transport equipment” subcategory dropped to -3.2% in January 2026 from 2.7% in December 2025.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco posted 4.5% inflation in January 2026 with an 8.0% percent share, while the “tobacco” subcategory slowed to 7.2% in January 2026 from 10.4% in December 2025.
Among Negros Occidental’s major commodity groups with lower inflation in January 2026, clothing and footwear eased to 0.7% from 1.7%, and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services softened to 1.9% from 2.1%.
At the same time, several Negros Occidental commodity groups posted higher inflation in January 2026, including housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 0.7% from 0.0%, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 2.8% from 1.1%, and health at 2.4% from 2.2%.
Recreation, sport and culture also rose to 3.8% in January 2026 from 1.9% in December 2025, and restaurants and accommodation services increased to 1.0% from 0.7%.
Negros Occidental commodity groups with constant inflation included information and communication at 0.3% in both months, education services at -2.5% in both months, and financial services at 0.0% in both months.
For Negros Occidental’s bottom 30% income households, inflation was 0.1% in January 2026.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco was identified as the top contributor to January 2026 inflation for the province’s bottom 30% income households, with inflation slowing to 5.9% in January 2026 from 8.1% in December 2025.
In the province’s bottom 30% income group, the report listed the main sources of deceleration as food and non-alcoholic beverages (rank 1) with inflation at -0.5% in January 2026 from -0.1% in December 2025 and a 43.8% contribution to inflation, transport (rank 2) at -1.9% from 0.5% with a 27.1% contribution, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (rank 3) at 5.9% from 8.1% with a 14.4% contribution.
In Bacolod City, all-income household inflation eased to 1.1% in January 2026.
Bacolod City’s inflation pattern over the past year showed 3.3% in January 2025, 3.3% in February, 3.5% in March, 2.2% in April, 2.4% in May, 0.5% in June, 0.1% in July, 0.0% in August, 1.1% in September, 1.2% in October, 2.1% in November, 2.7% in December 2025, and 1.1% in January 2026.
The report highlighted housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels as a major contributor to Bacolod’s downtrend, with inflation easing to 2.9% in January 2026 from 3.8% in December 2025 and accounting for 51.1% of the share to the downtrend in inflation.
Personal care and miscellaneous goods and services also contributed to the downtrend in Bacolod, with inflation slowing to 3.3% in January 2026 from 4.5% in December 2025 and posting a 12.9% share to the downtrend.
Among Bacolod’s main sources of deceleration for all-income households, food and non-alcoholic beverages posted 0.4% inflation with a 42.4% percent share, while the “food” subcategory fell to -0.2% in January 2026 from 1.9% in December 2025.
Restaurants and accommodation services recorded -0.7% inflation with a 22.4% percent share, and the “food and beverage serving services” subcategory was also at -0.7% in January 2026 from 3.3% in December 2025.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels posted 2.9% inflation with a 13.8% percent share, while “actual rentals for housing” slowed to 1.7% in January 2026 from 3.0% in December 2025.
Bacolod commodity groups with lower inflation in January 2026 included clothing and footwear at 1.8% from 2.8%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.5% from 2.2%, health at 0.1% from 2.5%, recreation, sport and culture at -0.4% from 1.0%, transport at 0.9% from 2.4%, and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services at 3.3% from 4.5%.
Bacolod’s furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance posted higher inflation at 3.1% in January 2026 from 1.9% in December 2025.
Bacolod commodity groups with constant inflation included education services at -0.1% in both months, information and communication at 3.7% in both months, and financial services at 0.0% in both months.
