Negros cop slain in drug raid receives posthumous valor medal

BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has posthumously honored Police Master Sgt. Davy Carampatana with the “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” in recognition of his bravery and dedication to duty.

The medal is among the highest valor citations conferred by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on officers killed or gravely wounded in the line of duty.

Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, acting director of PRO-NIR, bestowed the award during a visit to Carampatana’s wake at Funeraria de Nalagon in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, on Friday.

Joining him were National Police Commission–NIR director Owen De Luna and Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO).

Cardiño paid his respects to Carampatana, who died while carrying out an anti-illegal drug operation in Barangay Talaptap, La Castellana, on May 12.

Carampatana was allegedly stabbed to death by a 41-year-old suspected drug pusher who reportedly resisted arrest during the operation.

Two other officers were injured after the suspect’s 68-year-old mother allegedly joined the attack.

In a statement, PRO-NIR said the award recognized the fallen officer’s courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire fellow officers.

Cardiño also conveyed the PNP’s sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family, assuring them of the organization’s continued support during their time of grief.

Financial assistance and other forms of aid were extended to the family.

The regional police office reiterated its commitment to stand by its personnel and their loved ones, especially in times of hardship and loss.

Carampatana, 38, will be laid to rest in his hometown in Isabela on May 24.
