BACOLOD City – Mayor Raymund Tongson and Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental tested positive of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
In his Facebook post, Tongson confirmed that their RT-PCR tests were positive for the SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease.
Tongson appealed to his constituents and to the public in general to strictly observe the health protocols protect themselves from the virus and contain its spread.
He assured that this will not hamper the city government’s services to the people of Himamaylan.
Last week Murcia town mayor Gerry Rojas contracted the virus together with two councilors and a former councilor.
Meanwhile Barangay Captain Cherrie Hope Belarga Maravilla of Suay, Himamaylan City said that active cases in the barangay totaled to 13.
Belarga’s husband, Councilor Samuel Belarga, and their two children were negative for COVID-19 while one member was positive and is being isolated and will be transferred to a quarantine facility.
