NegOcc imposes curfew as guv mulls GCQ

BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government will impose starting today, April 12, 2021 a curfew as part of measures to curb the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 cases.

The curfew from 8 pm to 4 am is contained in Executive Order No. 21-22, series of 2021 that Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson signed over the weekend.

Lacson said that the curfew imposition is just one of the steps being taken to avert the upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the province.

The EO took effect at 12 am April 12.

Meanwhile, the mayors in the province agreed to place the province under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) as another measure against the spread of the disease.

Data from the Department of Health Region 6 as of April 10, 2021 showed that Negros Occidental logged the highest number of new cases in the region at 263.

Negros Occidental mayors unanimously signed the resolution recommending the province to be placed under GCQ.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante said in a radio interview that an emergency meeting with Lacson was called because of the rising cases in the province.

Escalante said the GCQ will allow strict implementation of border controls in the province.

The resolution was already submitted to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force which also endorsed the same to the National IATF.

Negros Occidental is currently under Modified GCQ status.
