NegOcc guv says there is no need to beef up security

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday said he sees no need to beef up his security amid apprehension brought about by the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo at his residence over the weekend.

Lacson said, “as long as you are aware of the situation in the province and in the areas you go to, I will always be guided by that.”

When asked if he will beef up his security and if there are threats against him, the governor said “No.”

He also confirmed that governors are invited to Camp Crame for a security briefing today, but he will not attend.

Lacson said the last time that he met with Degamo was to discuss the rebirth of the Negros Island Region, the latter did not mention any threat to his life.

But Lacson said he noticed that Degamo had a lot of security aides.

“We lost a friend in Governor Degamo, he may have some misgivings about NIR, but I was confident at the end of the day he will not object to the creation of a new region,” Lacson further said.

“Let us join in mourning with the family of Governor Degamo and let us all wish that justice will indeed be served not only to the governor but to other civilians whose lives were also taken from that carnage.”
