BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has allocated P1 million financial assistance to the province of Batanes after massive destruction of earthquakes in the town of Itbayat on July 27.
On July 30, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved a resolution to extend the financial assistance to Batanes.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the financial aid was sourced from the 2014 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund-Special Trust Fund of the province.
The said amount was already deposited in a bank on August 6.
Lacson said the donation is not just a form of monetary assistance but a gesture of support and proof that “we are one with other provinces in time of need.”
On July 29, the province of Batanes adopted Resolution No. 87, series of 2019, declaring a state of calamity, after a series of destructive earthquakes at Itbayat.
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake killed at least nine persons and left 60 others injured at the said town.
