NBA veteran Pau Gasol, a two-time champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, agreed to a one-year, US$2.6-million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, per reports from ESPN.
After the Milwaukee Bucks waived him, it took more than two weeks for the Trail Blazers to sign the prized veteran center after the free agency hype.
Gasol is entering his 19th season in the league and will join his sixth team.
He is expected to bring leadership and provide stability in the locker room. Gasol would form a formidable front court for Portland, pairing up with Whiteside.
At age 39, retirement talks are far from Gasol’s mind as he enjoys playing the sport he loves.
On Thursday morning, Gasol posted a photo on his Twitter account confirming his move to Portland.
