Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey will be investigated by the National Basketball Association (NBA) after rumors spread that he is currently in a relationship with a minor.
It was NBA spokesman Mike Bass who announced the move by the board and was confirmed by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Last Thursday, Giddey went trending on social media after photos of him and an underage girl were posted on several platforms.
Aside from photos, videos were also uploaded on X and Facebook, with some having obscene captions about the couple.
When asked regarding the matter, Giddey only responded: “I get the question guys, I completely understand you guys want to know about it, but just for right now, I don’t have anything to say.”
As of now, the NBA won’t be suspending Giddey unless concrete evidence is presented and verified by the investigation body.
“Personal matter, and I have no comment on it. And that’ll be my comment on anything related,” said Oklahoma’s head coach Mark Daigneault.
Giddey is currently having one of his best seasons in the NBA after getting drafted sixth overall by the Thunder during the 2021 Rookie Draft.
During the first 15 games of the current NBA season, the Australian hooper is averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
Out of the 15 total games, Giddey reached double figures in scoring 10 times and is currently under a 27-minute playing time frame for coach Daigneault.
With Giddey’s efficiency, Oklahoma City is ranked second in the Western Conference behind the Minnesota Timberwolves with an impressive 11-4 record.
