Will Jonathan Kuminga leave the Golden State Warriors?
On July 25, 2025, ESPN’s veteran NBA insider Shams Charania confirmed that the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns reached out to the small forward who just entered the free agency craze.
Charania added that Kuminga is still weighing his options in the ongoing NBA offseason, and re-signing with the Warriors remains one of his priorities.
However, Kuminga’s playing minutes declined after the arrival of superstar Jimmy Butler, who took over his spot in the starting five rotation.
Butler was acquired from the Miami Heat via a five-team deal, with the Warriors shipping away Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a 2025 first-round pick to finalize the terms.
Kuminga was rock solid in his 10 starts during the recently concluded NBA season, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.
Golden State was already running plays for Kuminga, but when Butler arrived, his role came back to being an energy guy and a scrappy enforcer.
His inconsistent minutes continued in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs, as he logged in a total of 18 minutes across the three games he played against the Houston Rockets.
However, Kuminga showed flashes of his true potential in the West semis when Golden State took on Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
From games two to five, Kuminga chipped in 18, 30, 23, and 26 points, but his offensive contributions weren’t enough to fuel the Stephen Curry-less Warriors.
If Kuminga decides to jump to Sacramento, he will be teaming up with an offensive-centric lineup of DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, and Domantas Sabonis.
The Suns also had plenty of talent left despite the departure of Kevin Durant, with Devin Booker still leading the team alongside Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks.
