Kai Sotto’s NBA G-league arrival would not only help him reach his goal of getting drafted into the big league, but to also pursue a college degree program and finish his studies.
It was confirmed that the G-league has teamed up with the Arizona State University to help with the academics of the top-tier high school prospect that chose to enter the pre-NBA league.
Arizona State is home to few NBA superstars including former NBA MVP James Harden, NBA legend Byron Scott, Lionel Hollins, and Fil-Am Gilas Pilipinas prospect, Remy Martin.
“When they come through our program and they do make it to the NBA, we’ll still pay for them for four years of college through a program in Arizona State if they ever want to finish their education. So that’s what a lot of people don’t know,” said Sotto’s head coach, Brian Shaw.
Sotto, who flew to the US to pursue his NBA dream, left the Philippines as a high school senior at the Ateneo de Manila University.
During his training in the US, Sotto opted not to pursue his tertiary education and began to train privately for exactly a year.
“I think the big advantage in the G League select team is that they’ll be able to spend a good majority of time working on their game,” added Shaw.
Since arriving in the US, Sotto has been making waves after honing his skills with the Atlanta-based sports program The Skills Factory that turned a lot of heads in the scouting industry.
