MYSTERY HEIST: P3M worth of LGU funds ‘robbed’ from treasurer’s house

BACOLOD City – Police are still boggled by the case of P3 million worth of cash and checks owned by the local government of Isabela, Negros Occidental that were allegedly stolen from the house of a government employee at Doña Juliana, Barangay Taculing here last month.

Police Captain Dax Santillan, head of Police Station 6, said they first learned of the incident on Jan. 21, but the official report only came out yesterday, as they first determined its veracity.

Santillan said 60-year-old Nenette Escarda, municipal treasurer of Isabela, alleged that an unidentified perpetrator forcibly entered their house through their bedroom window.

The suspect allegedly dismantled six jalousie slides from the window of Escarda’s room, which is situated at the back of their sari-sari store.

Santillan said the cash and checks were wrapped in a piece of paper which was placed inside a food plastic container and then buried under a pile of plastic containers.

The room was empty at that time, as Escarda was supposed to fly to Manila early that day.

Santillan did not elaborate further, because they considered it a “sensitive case.”

The local government of Isabela has reached out to Police Station 6 through the Isabela town police for further investigation.

Daily Guardian is still trying to get the comment of the Isabela municipal government on the matter.
