ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A man accused of fatally shooting a barber last November voluntarily surrendered to police Friday afternoon, Jan. 16.
Police identified the suspect as Michael Degala y Asignacion, 36, a resident of the area, who was listed as the No. 2 most wanted person at the municipal level.
Degala surrendered at the Roxas City Police Station at around 7:05 p.m. and is facing a murder charge under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 29 of Republic Act 10591.
The warrant of arrest, under Criminal Case No. C-10-26, was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Roxas City on Jan. 13, 2026, with no bail recommended.
Degala is currently under police custody pending turnover to the court of origin.
Police said Degala was identified as the suspect in the killing of Roxan Aguirre, a barber from Barangay Bolo, who was shot dead on Nov. 18, 2025, at Sitio Ilawod, Barangay Dinginan.
Investigators said the night before the incident, a heated argument occurred between the two after Aguirre complained about Degala’s motorcycle with an open muffler.
The following day, Degala allegedly went to the victim’s barbershop and shot Aguirre while he was having breakfast with his wife.
Aguirre was rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead by the attending physician.
