A case for murder was filed against two construction workers tagged in the killing of a village dad on Sunday outside of a bar in Roxas City, Capiz.
Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Jomuad, Jr., Roxas City police chief, said they filed an inquest case of murder against Virgilio Vigor and Joseph Jamora on Tuesday, December 15.
Vigor, 40, of Barangay Karigangan, Janiuay, Iloilo, was immediately arrested after he allegedly stabbed Barangay Captain Ruben Fuentes, 63, of Barangay III, Roxas City.
Fuentes died of two stab injuries on his chest and back.
Jomuad said they filed the case against Jamora because he was deemed a “principal by direct participation.”
Vigor was arrested in a hot pursuit operation inside the Capiz State University-main campus, where they were working on a construction project.
Police also collared Jamora after he allegedly concealed the murder weapon and Vigor’s wallet.
Jomuad said they would file a separate case over the attack on Cesar Edrosolano, 38, also a resident of Barangay III.
Edrosolano, a member of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), was wounded after Vigor also stabbed him when he tried to help Fuentes.
As reported earlier, Vigor is a former convict. He was incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prison for a homicide case after he allegedly stabbed and killed a man in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
Police investigation showed that the two suspects, together with five companions, went to Groggy Videoke Bar at McKinley St., Barangay III, early evening of Sunday.
The group of seven already had a drink at the CAPSU main campus, where the suspects had been working on the project for two weeks only.
Jomuad said everything went well with their drinking spree until around 9:30 pm when the group was about to leave.
Their engineer-boss was about to settle their bill when Vigor suddenly threw a bottle to the ground.
No one was hurt but he was asked to leave the bar.
Fuentes, who was patrolling the area approached Vigor.
“Kap Fuentes asked the suspect if he’s okay. But Vigor immediately stabbed him twice,” Jomuad said.
When Edrosolano tried to help, he also got stabbed.
Vigor and Jamora later fled to CAPSU campus where they were arrested.
