Murder complaint filed against ex-soldier in Bacolod shooting
By Glazyl M. Jopson
BACOLOD CITY — Police have filed a murder complaint against a 31-year-old former soldier accused of shooting and killing his friend over an alleged personal grudge in Barangay Banago here on Oct. 9, 2026.
Capt. Ramie Sayson, chief of Police Station 3, said authorities filed the complaint this week through regular filing procedures after gathering evidence linking the suspect to the killing.
Among the evidence was the statement of the victim’s live-in partner, who served as a witness in the investigation.
The suspect, a resident of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, reportedly frequented Barangay Banago to conduct transactions in the area.
However, investigators have yet to establish what triggered the argument between the suspect and the 41-year-old victim before the shooting.
Police are looking into a possible personal grudge as the motive for the killing.
Sayson said the suspect was previously assigned to a military unit in Iloilo before going absent without official leave (AWOL).
The former soldier received his certificate of discharge from military service in September, according to Sayson.
The murder complaint will undergo preliminary investigation to determine whether sufficient grounds exist to pursue criminal charges in court.
The suspect remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
