Murder charge filed vs. gambling suspect

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Police on Tuesday, Feb. 3, filed a murder charge against a man accused of fatally stabbing his neighbor during a wake in Poblacion Sapian, Capiz.
The case was filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against alias “Toto,” 24, a resident of Poblacion Sapian.
The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, following a heated altercation between the suspect and the victim, alias “Rod,” 26.
Police investigation showed that the two were playing cards at the wake of a relative when an argument broke out.
Investigators said the suspect suddenly stood up, pulled out a knife, and stabbed the victim in the back.
Relatives rushed the victim to Mambusao District Hospital in Mambusao town, where he died minutes later while undergoing treatment.
The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested in a police hot pursuit operation.
Police said the suspect is now under the custody of the Sapian Philippine National Police while the investigation continues and further legal proceedings are undertaken.
