Murder case filed over Roxas City delivery rider killing

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Police filed a murder case against two suspects on Sept. 15, 2026, over the killing of delivery rider Chester Azurquin Alagon in Barangay Sibaguan on July 28.
One suspect was identified only as “Amo,” an adult from Bayot Drive in Barangay IX, Roxas City, who police said had left for other provinces. The second was listed as “John Doe.”
Lt. Col. Rogelio Tomagtang Jr., chief of the Roxas Component City Police Station, said community cooperation helped police identify the suspects.
Tomagtang said the “case was cleared” but was not yet “closed” because police were still seeking the suspects’ arrest and detention.
Tomagtang said robbery was the motive behind the killing.
He appealed to anyone with information about the suspect listed as John Doe to contact police and help secure justice for Alagon’s family.
Alagon, 22, a resident of Barangay Dinginan, Roxas City, died at the scene after he was shot with a firearm of undetermined caliber.
Police said Alagon had gone to Barangay Sibaguan to deliver a parcel. As he was leaving, two assailants riding a green Yamaha Mio motorcycle shot him.
A resident said she heard a gunshot and saw two people fleeing on a motorcycle. She could not say which direction they took. The passenger wore a bonnet.
Residents later found a helmet believed to belong to one of the assailants after the getaway motorcycle fell on the road. The assailants immediately got up and fled.
Tomagtang said Alagon was working as a substitute for the delivery rider previously assigned to the area, who had been transferred elsewhere.
Earlier in the investigation, Tomagtang said robbery was being considered as a possible motive, although the assailants did not take Alagon’s collections or personal money.
Alagon sustained a gunshot wound to the lower left portion of his back. The bullet exited near his collarbone.
Police recovered no bullet slug or spent cartridge casing at the scene. Investigators were awaiting ballistic examination results to determine the type of firearm used, according to the earlier account.
Sibaguan barangay captain Johnny Arciga said in a media interview that the shooting occurred in a remote area without closed-circuit television cameras.
Arciga said another delivery rider had previously been robbed there.
