BACOLOD City – Some residents of Murcia, Negros Occidental denounced the alleged violence and atrocities committed by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and its allies in a rally at Barangay Pandanon Silos yesterday.
The participants were residents of Barangays Sta. Rosa, Amayco, and Pandanon Silos.
In a press release, the Army said the activity “showed the earnest desire of the people of Murcia to have a peaceful community for their families with a fervent hope to totally eradicate the rebel activities in their areas.”
The participants observed health protocols against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) while hoisting banners and placards bearing messages that urged the NPA to “stop terrorism” in their communities.
They also distributed leaflets about the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) which aims to provide a complete package of assistance to former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF who have surrendered to the government.
The event was followed by a dialogue with the residents and local officials of the following barangays, and policemen. It was highlighted with a message of peace and the testimonies of a former rebel.
In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Alvaran, Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion commander, lauded the actions of the residents of the three villages for their support towards ending the atrocities through their active participation in the peace rally.
“With the continued support and participation of the people of Murcia in our campaign against terrorism, we can really achieve an insurgency-free and peaceful society,” Alvaran said.
