MSMEs, coops join basic work safety and health training

SAN JOSE, Antique – Safety Officers from different establishments and cooperatives in Antique recently attended the Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training held at Villa del Carmen here.

63 participants from different MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises), business establishments and cooperatives attended the training that was supported by the local government of San Jose.

Mayor Elmer Untaran of San Jose emphasized that the local officials are exerting efforts to improve the business environment and make the municipality a better place to do business with.

Untaran assured the participants that the development plans of San Jose de Buenavista, being the capital town of the province and the center for trade and commerce will be beneficial to the business sector.

Vicente Lagunday, president of Antique Chamber of Commerce and Industry, encouraged business owners as well to join the organization so they can avail of the services channelled through the Antique Chamber of Commerce and Industry and to also initiate improvements in the sector.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) saw the need to push for the training of Safety Officers in response to the department’s orders mandating the business establishments to implement Occupational Safety and Health Standards in the Workplace.

The resource persons include Melvin Melocoton from the Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Center, Vince Patrick Penuela of COSHEMAP Academy of Safety and Technology Inc., with Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal of DTI, and Benjie Requietina of DOLE as facilitators.

The activity was facilitated by the Antique Provincial  MSMEs Resilience Core Group compose of DTI, DOLE, Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other concerned agencies that collaborated for the advocacy on MSME resiliency. (PIA)
