MRWD rolls out El Niño preparedness plan
By Felipe V. Celino
ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD) has initiated an El Niño preparedness plan to mitigate possible effects on the water supply in its service areas.
Mark Vincent Bernas, MRWD public information officer, said the agency’s preparations include monitoring water levels at the Salocon Water Treatment Plant in Panitan, Capiz.
MRWD is also purchasing chemicals and equipment to help ensure the continuous supply of water to its consumers.
Bernas said the water district has not yet observed signs of a supply shortage or an inability to meet water demand in areas covered by MRWD.
The agency continues to monitor both water availability and demand across its service areas to ensure adequate supply.
MRWD has also asked consumers to conserve water as the agency prepares for possible prolonged El Niño conditions until March 2027.
MRWD relies on the Panay River as its main raw water source for Roxas City and the municipalities of Panitan, Panay and Ivisan.
The surface water supply is supplemented by alternative sources such as deep wells, springs and impounding dams.
Raw water is processed through facilities including the Salocon Water Treatment Plant in Panitan and the Bahit Water Treatment Plant.
MRWD provides potable water to tens of thousands of household and commercial concessionaires in Roxas City and surrounding municipalities.
The water district said management conducts round-the-clock monitoring of water levels to maintain supply across its service areas.
