MPower, the retail electricity supplier of Manila Electric Co., has signed a retail supply agreement to provide electricity to six data center facilities operated by ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines, underscoring the growing link between energy supply and the country’s digital infrastructure expansion.
The agreement covers three sites—STT Fairview and STT Cavite 1 and 2—comprising six accounts with planned capacity of up to 40 megawatts of renewable energy.
MPower will supply the electricity requirements of the facilities located across Metro Manila and Cavite.
The deal comes as demand for stable and scalable power rises alongside the expansion of data centers that support cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital banking and e-commerce platforms.
STT GDC Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Carlo Malana said the partnership reflects the critical role of data centers in the digital economy.
“As the Philippines rapidly accelerates its digital transformation, data centers are becoming a critical foundation of the country’s digital economy. From cloud computing and artificial artificial intelligence to digital banking and e-commerce, these technologies rely on secure and reliable infrastructure powered by energy. Partnerships like this demonstrate how collaboration between world-class digital infrastructure providers and trusted energy partners can help enable the next phase of the Philippines’ digital growth. By ensuring reliable and sustainable power for data center operations, we are helping lay the groundwork for a future where the country can confidently support its growing digital ambitions,” Malana said.
STT GDC Philippines is a joint venture involving Globe Telecom, Ayala Corp. and Singapore-headquartered ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.
Meralco, through MPower, said the partnership reflects rising electricity demand from data centers as enterprises scale up digital operations and data storage requirements.
“Great partnerships are built on trust, a shared vision, and a commitment to move forward together. Through this agreement, we reaffirm MPower’s commitment to delivering reliable, flexible, and competitive energy solutions that empower our partners to grow and succeed,” Meralco Senior Vice President and MPower Head Redel M. Domingo said.
MPower said it continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio as more contestable customers seek cost-competitive and sustainable supply options under the retail competition and open access framework.
Under the retail competition and open access system, qualified large-scale electricity users may choose their own supplier, allowing energy-intensive industries such as data centers to secure more tailored supply arrangements.
The agreement also highlights how power reliability and sustainability are becoming increasingly important as the Philippines expands its digital economy and builds capacity for high-demand technology services.
