Metro Pacific Investments Corporation’s subsidiaries in Iloilo have been recognized as Top Taxpayers during Iloilo City’s 88th Charter Day Celebration, affirming their role as leading contributors to the city’s economic development and public service funding.
The Iloilo City Government, led by Mayor Raisa Trenas Chu, honored the Metro Pacific group’s companies—Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) and Meralco PowerGen Corporation under MThermal (formerly Global Business Power)—for their significant tax contributions under the Business Corporation Category.
MPIW was ranked Top 14, highlighting the operational scale and fiscal impact of their business presence in Iloilo.
“This recognition underscores our dedication not only to delivering quality water services and water infrastructure but also to fulfilling our obligations that support the development of Iloilo’s communities,” said Angelo David C. Berba, Chief Operating Officer of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water.
“We view this as part of our long-term partnership with Iloilo—one that fuels inclusive growth, supports public services, and helps create a sustainable future for the city,” he added.
Three subsidiaries of Meralco PowerGen Corporation, under the MThermal, also earned recognition for their tax contributions in 2024.
Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) ranked No. 1 in both Business Tax and Real Property Tax (RPT) payments, while Panay Power Corporation placed 15th in Business Tax and 5th in RPT.
Avon River Power Holdings Corporation, another MThermal subsidiary, was listed as the 16th top RPT payer in Iloilo City.
The awards were presented during ceremonies held at Diversion 21 Hotel and accepted by Berba, Engr. Antonio Cabalhug Jr., First Vice President of MThermal, and other company representatives.
PEDC operates two clean coal-fired power plants in La Paz, Iloilo City with capacities of 164 MW and 150 MW, utilizing Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler technology known for improved efficiency and lower emissions.
The recognition comes amid Metro Pacific’s ongoing investment in Iloilo through infrastructure upgrades, environmental stewardship, local employment, and community programs that align with the city’s development priorities.
Metro Pacific’s water and energy subsidiaries continue to play a vital role in Iloilo’s public service delivery and infrastructure growth, reinforcing their position as responsible corporate citizens.
The Charter Day recognition also reflects the city’s emphasis on honoring tax-compliant businesses whose contributions support the local economy, education, healthcare, and sustainable development efforts.
Metro Pacific’s presence in Iloilo, backed by its utilities and power subsidiaries, remains a cornerstone of its commitment to inclusive, long-term partnerships with local governments across the Philippines.
