BACOLOD City – A motorcycle rider died while two others were injured after they figured in a road crash with a six-wheeler truck loaded with sugarcane at Osmeña Avenue, Barangay 4, Victorias City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Police identified the fatality as Richard Espiritu of Bago City.
Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Corpuz, city police chief, said Espiritu was waiting for a funeral procession to pass by before crossing the street when the truck swerved and crashed into him.
Two other persons who were also standing on the roadside were hit by the truck, which reportedly suffered a mechanical problem, Corpuz added.
Corpuz said the truck driven by John Ronald Bascon of Cadiz City, also hit four tricycles and one sports utility vehicle that were parked on the roadside.
“Gin-swerve niya ang truck or else marami madidisgrasya pag dumeretso siya,” the police chief added.
Corpuz said the two wounded persons suffered minor injuries, while Espiritu died at the hospital.
The truck driver is still in police custody as of 3PM yesterday, Corpuz said.
