Motorcycle rider killed in road mishap

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A motorcycle rider was killed after slipping on a wet road early Friday morning, Jan. 2, at Sitio Bang-bang in Barangay Tanza Sur, Panay, Capiz.

Police identified the victim as alias “Mark,” of legal age and a resident of Barangay Tabuc Sur, Panitan, Capiz.

Initial police investigation showed that passersby found the victim at about 5 a.m. lying beside the road, bleeding from multiple injuries.

Authorities said there were no other individuals involved in the incident, ruling out a collision.

The victim was given first aid by the Panay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office before being taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Roxas City, where he died minutes later.

In a separate incident, four people were injured when two motorcycles collided Thursday afternoon, Jan. 1, along a curved road in Bag-ong Barrio, Tapaz, Capiz.

The Tapaz police identified the injured as Kenneth John Danid, 25, who was driving a black Rusi motorcycle, and his back rider, Pvt. Darwin Delioterio, 25, a member of the Philippine Army.

Also injured were Jhunrey Gallaza, 18, who was driving the other motorcycle, and his passenger, Geryboy Espadon.

Police said Gallaza lost control of his motorcycle while negotiating a curve and encroached into the opposite lane, resulting in a collision with Danid’s motorcycle.

The impact caused all four riders to sustain injuries to different parts of their bodies, authorities said.

Gallaza was taken to a hospital in Calinog, Iloilo, while Espadon received first aid from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Tapaz.

Danid and Delioterio were brought to Tapaz District Hospital, although Danid was later transferred to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

Police said the motorcycles involved were placed under the custody of the Tapaz Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and further investigation.
