An early morning motorcycle accident on April 15 claimed the lives of two 17-year-old boys in Calinog, Iloilo.
Police have not formally named the victims but provided aliases: John from Barangay Dalid and Carl from Barangay Baje San Julian, both in Calinog.
The teens were riding a Rusi Flame 150CC motorcycle from Barangay Simsiman to the town proper around 2:30 a.m. Monday when the crash occurred.
“They had borrowed the motorcycle from a friend and were not wearing crash helmets,” said Major Fernand Limbungan, the Calinog police chief.
Their destination at the time of the incident is unknown.
According to reports, the pair lost control of the motorcycle on Jalaur Bridge, veered off the right side of the road, and collided with concrete railings. The impact sent John and the motorcycle plunging into the river below, while Carl was ejected onto the road’s shoulder.
Both were transported to Calinog District Hospital, where John was pronounced dead upon arrival, and Carl succumbed an hour later.
Witnesses suggested that high speed contributed to the tragic outcome.
