More than half of patients in WV survive COVID-19

Twelve more patients in the region recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6) reported on Thursday.
Included in the 12 new recoveries are the last two patients from the town of Lambunao in Iloilo province, according to Dr. Ma. Sophia Pulmones, chief of the Local Health Support Division of DOH-CHD 6.
The two new recoveries – a 44-year-old female from Lambunao, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 25) and a 32-year-old female from Lambunao, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 58) – are members of the COVID-19-hit Wong family in the same town.
All seven COVID-19 cases in Lambunao belonged to the Wong family wherein six have fully recovered and one died last March. Lambunao is now COVID-free with zero active cases.
Apart from the Lambunao survivors, 10 more recoveries were recorded in the region on Thursday.
Six of the new recoveries are repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) identified as WV Patient No. 47 who is a 26-year-old male from Tigbauan, Iloilo; 42-year-old male from Candoni, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 57); 27-year-old male from Buenavista Guimaras (WV Patient No. 72); 24-year-old male from Nueva Valencia, Guimaras (WV Patient No.81); 30-year-old male from City Proper, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 77); and 28-year-old male from Mandurriao, Iloilo City (WV Patient No.82).
Other recoveries include a 31-year-old male from Zarraga, Iloilo (WV Patient No.59); 28-year-old female from Jaro, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 63); 49-year-old male from Caluya, Antique (WV Patient No. 65); and 48-year-old male from Arevalo, Iloilo City (WV Patient No.66).
The total recoveries in the region spiked to 54, or 53 percent of the 101 cases in Western Visayas.
“So far, 53 % of our cases have fully recovered meaning may resolution sang signs and symptoms with negative confirmatory test,” Pulmones said.
