The Iloilo City Government, MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power), and Boysen Philippines officially launched Project I-SHED on February 27, 2026, a joint initiative to rehabilitate 48 public waiting sheds across the city.
MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro, Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas, and Engineer Keith Insular of Boysen Philippines led the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the project’s first completed waiting shed.
The rehabilitated sheds feature repaired and repainted roofs along with newly installed lighting fixtures, designed to provide commuters and students with safer, more comfortable shelter from the sun and rain. MORE Power also committed to installing benches on the rehabilitated waiting sheds.
Treñas thanked MORE Power for the initiative, calling it a symbol of the continued growth and progress shared by the company and the city government. She credited the company’s role in providing stable and affordable power as a key factor in attracting investors to Iloilo City.
The mayor said that whenever visitors come to Iloilo City, she tells them that the city’s growth is because of MORE Power. She expressed hope that the company would expand its projects beyond the city and into the province, noting the clear benefits of having MORE Power as a partner for progress and development.
Castro said the company’s goal from the start was not just to bring electricity but to be a genuine partner in the city’s progress. He noted that six years after entering Iloilo, MORE Power has fulfilled its initial commitment and is now going beyond its completed five-year development plan by working to enhance the system into a modern, smart city grid distribution network.
Beyond power distribution, Castro cited the company’s continuing community programs, including fingerling dispersals in the Iloilo River, mangrove tree growing, urban farming, and the recently held Farmers Congress. He said the I-SHED project was the latest example, after the company identified 48 waiting sheds that could be rehabilitated and made part of the city’s services to constituents.
Castro thanked the city government through Mayor Treñas for the partnership, adding that together, they can do “much, much more for the city.”
Under a memorandum of agreement, MORE Power will shoulder all repair costs and materials, Boysen Philippines will sponsor the paint, and the Iloilo City Government will handle maintenance and electrical consumption.
Once completed, the well-lit waiting sheds are expected to provide not only relief from inclement weather but also enhanced safety for students and commuters during nighttime.
MORE Power assumed power distribution operations in Iloilo City in 2020 after taking over from the previous franchise holder, and has since undertaken various infrastructure and community development programs in the city, including fingerling dispersals in the Iloilo River, mangrove tree growing, and urban farming initiatives.
