Residents of Iloilo City will see relief in their December electricity bills, as MORE Electric and Power Corporation announced a reduction in power rates by PHP 0.5081 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) compared to November.
The current average residential rate now stands at PHP 11.3477 per kWh.
The rate drop is largely attributed to a decline in electricity demand, which expanded the supply margin and lowered average prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). As consumption fell, more supply was available in the market, causing WESM rates to decrease.
Despite temporary power plant outages caused by recent typhoons, the prompt restoration of affected facilities, combined with lower demand, helped prevent major disruptions in the energy supply chain.
Transmission charges also saw a significant reduction. Rates fell by PHP 1.7918 per kWh from PHP 1.8612 per kWh the previous month, due to lower costs in regulated charges and ancillary services from the reserve market.
MORE Power confirmed that there were no changes in its distribution, supply, and metering charges.
A decrease in the system loss rate further contributed to the lower overall rates. The system loss rate dropped to PHP 0.4086 per kWh from PHP 0.4512 per kWh last month, reflecting reduced generation and transmission costs.
“We will always assure our customers na even though these generation charges and transmission charges are all pass-through, we see to it that we always make an effort to source kung saan man may pinakamababang presyo ng kuryente at any given time,” said COO Engr. JM Zaporteza.
The December rate adjustment comes as a welcome development for Ilonggos during the holiday season, highlighting MORE Power’s commitment to balancing cost efficiency with reliable service.
