Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas thanked distribution utility MORE Electric and Power Corp for donating P49,000 for the consumables needed by the city’s molecular laboratory for COVID-19 testing.
MORE Power President and COO Roel Z. Castro handed over the donation to Treñas at the City Hall on Monday.
Treñas said that instead of buying gifts, MORE Power decided to donate not only to City Hall but to 10 other institutions around the city as well.
In his letter to the mayor, Castro said the COVID-19 pandemic made them “learn so much for ourselves and how to care for each other in adapting to the world’s so called New Normal.”
“With so much of the things that has been happening in this year, it has meant a tremendous flexibility and continued focus and hard work to support the different sectors of our society that we served. We understand that one of the most affected are the vulnerable sectors in the society, the institutions who needs our support more than anyone else,” he added.
Since Christmas parties are banned amid the pandemic, Castro said they decided to donate to the city’s COVID-19 lab “on behalf of our customers who wish you to have a Merry Christmas and for you to be healthy and to continue your advocacy for the people who direly need love, care, and support.”
Apart from the City Hall, other institutions that will receive P50,000 each from MORE Power are Asilo de Molo, Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc, St. Paul University, Assumption Foundation, Beauty Behind Bars, Philippine Red Cross-Iloilo, Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center, Carmelite Monastery, Iloilo Two Hearts Foundation, and Colegio de San Jose.
“The institution like yours and your people are the one who made valiant efforts in extending help to the most vulnerable individual in the city. We are inspired and motivated by the heroism you did for the needy. With this, we are grateful with the efforts that you have taken part in combatting the pandemic,” Castro said.
