More males in Guimaras province died in July 2020 compared to women.
Based on the Philippine Statistics Authority’s data, the number of registered deaths by the deceased’s usual residence in July 2020 was at 89, where 57 deaths, or 64.04 percent, were males and 32 deaths, or 35.96 percent, were females.
The data indicate a gender gap of 28.09 percent or 178 male deaths for every 100 female deaths recorded in the province.
Death is defined as the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time, including after live birth has taken place.
By municipality, majority of the deaths registered in July 2020 were in Jordan, with 40 or 44.94 percent of the provincial total.
Next to Jordan was Buenavista with 23 deaths or 25.84 percent, followed by Nueva Valencia with 12 deaths or 13.48 percent.
Sibunag posted the least number of deaths with 6 or 6.74 percent of the provincial total, next to the municipality of San Lorenzo with eight deaths or 8.99 percent.
Majority of the registered deaths in the municipality of Jordan were males accounting for 65 percent of the municipal total, or 26 individuals, while 35 percent or 14 deaths were females.
The figure indicated a 30 percent gender gap, or 186 male deaths per 100 female deaths in July 2020.
In the same reference period, the majority of deaths in Buenavista were males, which accounted for 14 deaths or 60.87 percent of the municipal total. Female deaths in the municipality, on the other hand, were at 9 or 39.13 percent.
Buenavista posted a gender gap of 21.74 percent with a sex ratio of 156 male deaths per 100 female deaths registered in the municipality.
Nueva Valencia saw the number of deaths in July 2020 split between both sexes.
In San Lorenzo town, 75 percent, or six deaths, registered in the municipality were males while the remaining 25 percent, or two deaths, were females. This showed a gender gap of 50.00 percent in the municipality with a sex ratio of 300 registered male deaths for every 100 recorded female deaths in the municipality.
For the municipality of Sibunag, 83.33 percent of deaths registered were males, which accounted for five deaths, while 16.67 percent or one death was female. This indicated a gender gap of 66.67 percent with a sex ratio of 500 registered male deaths for every 100 registered female deaths by usual residence of the deceased.
