More female teens settled down than males in Guimaras in the first quarter of 2023.
Eight were below 20 years old, which is four times the number of grooms (2) in the same age group, based on the data generated from the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office.
The DVSS records revealed that 4 out of 8 adolescent brides originated from different municipalities: one bride of adolescent age each from Sibunag, Buenavista, Nueva Valencia, and San Lorenzo, while four (4) teen brides are from the municipality of Jordan.
“The recorded two (2) teen grooms for the first quarter of 2023 came from the Municipality of San Lorenzo and Jordan,” Provincial Statistical Officer Nelida B. Losare said.

Losare also said that there were more brides than grooms belonging to the 20- to 34-year-old who tied the knot in the same period, accounting for 81.21 percent of the total bride compared to 210 grooms, or 74.47 percent of all grooms.
“Data indicated that males were more likely to marry at a later age than women, with 56 grooms and 36 brides belonging to an age group of 35 to 49 years old recorded out of 282 couples, while 10 grooms and 6 brides among the age group of 50-59 years old,” Losare said.
“Three (3) grooms belonging to the age group of 60-69 and 1 in 70 years old and above were married in the 1st quarter of 2023, while Three (3) brides for the age group of 60-69 and none from 70 years old and above,” she added.
