ROXAS CITY, Capiz— More charges are set to be filed against a man who killed his stepdaughter and seriously wounded his live-in partner at Brgy. Mianay Sigma, Capiz.
The Sigma police is waiting for the medical certificate of Dalia Alvarez, 59, who was now in stable condition, said Police Lt. Rey Jason Gimeno, officer-in-charge of Sigma PNP.
Gimeno said charges for frustrated murder and violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Law) will be filed against Gerald Dela Cruz, 46, who is presently detained at the Sigma police station.
Dela Cruz was first charged for murder before the Capiz Provincial Prosecutors Office for allegedly killing Jeebee Alvarez, 16, the daughter of Dalia.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the authorities five days after the incident for fear that the families of the victims might run after him.
Dela Cruz had asked forgiveness from the family of the victims saying he is ready to face the consequences of his actions.
The incident happened June 20, 2021 when the suspect went home drunk. A heated argument ensued between the suspect and Dalia that resulted in the hacking incident.
Jeebee has able to save her 9-month-old baby by leaving the infant with their neighbor before going back to their house to get her mother who was fighting with the suspect.
But Dela Cruz hacked her, too.
