The seventh Friday Madness 2 edition for 2020 features an Open Mic session with a series of monologues on August 21 at the Negros Museum.
The Performance Laboratory Inc., a theater group based in Bacolod City, continues its mission of promoting local artists and keeping regional theatre alive through the revival of Friday Madness – a series of short performances, readings, theatre talks and interaction.
Season 2 of Friday Madness started last July with poetry readings highlighting poetry in visual arts, theatre, dance, music and cinema. An open mic follows each reading with the reading of original poems by aspiring and award winning Negrense writers including Ismael Java and Serafin Plotria. Each reading is followed by an interaction among the participants.
The event, held at The Negros Museum is open to an intimate group of performers and audience and adheres to the health and safety protocols required by the IATF – including the wearing of face masks and social distancing.

For the month of August, Friday Madness will feature monologues from the plays of award winning Filipino and Western Visayas playwrights such as Anton Juan, Tony Perez, Malou Jacob, Glenn Sevilla Mas, Peter Solis Nery and Elsa Martinez Coscolluela; as well as world classics translated and adapted to Hiligaynon to include Kibon (No Exit), Godo (Waiting for Godot), Bayaw (A Streetcar Names Desire), Lupad (Independence) and many more.
The Performance Laboratory aims to provide a space for thespians and theatre enthusiasts to meet in an informal setting, and encourage exchange amongst artists and audience, PerfLab Artistic Director Tanya Lopez said.
“Amidst the dominance of digital screens, we believe that the process of coming together as a community – even in small and limited numbers -can be a powerful tool to preserve human connection,” she said.
Lopez said that the seventh Friday Madness Season 2 event they decided to push thru to further explore the sharing of experiences among artists, and theater lovers.
The next Friday Madness will be at The Negros Museum on August 21, 2020, 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Audience count is limited to a maximum of 12 people. Interested individuals are encouraged to reserve their seats ahead of time.
