BACOLOD CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) retrieved the body of a fishing boat crew member off the waters of Guiwanon Bantayan in Cebu City last Tuesday, three days after he was reported missing in Negros Occidental on August 3.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of the PCG-northern Negros Occidental, said a group of fishermen found 24-year-old Leodigario Brosas of Barangay 6-A, Victorias City, Negros Occidental, floating in the waters of Bantayan around 10:30 a.m.
Benjamin reported that the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) in Victorias City received a call from CGSS Cadiz City in Negros Occidental, informing them of the report from CGSS Bantayan, Cebu regarding a found cadaver.
Brosas was believed to have gone overboard while asleep at the aft of a fishing vessel after returning from a fishing venture with his companions early on August 3.
His companions discovered him missing while they were on their way home to Victorias City.
Benjamin mentioned that Brosas’ family did not request an autopsy and decided to bury the victim in Bantayan, Cebu.
