ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A fisherman who went missing after setting out to sea early Wednesday, November 5, was found dead off the coast of Panay town, Capiz.
The body of Sherwin Banton Jabonete, 41, a resident of Barangay Pinamihagan, President Roxas, was discovered by local authorities in Barangay Butacal, Panay, about a kilometer from where his boat was earlier found drifting.
Jabonete left home around 3 a.m. to fish and failed to return, prompting his family to alert authorities.
By 5 a.m., his fishing boat was found adrift with no one on board.
Barangay Pinamihagan Chairman Ronilo Basinang reported the incident and sought assistance from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
A joint search and rescue operation was launched by the President Roxas police, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection–President Roxas, and the MDRRMO Alert team.
