Missing Bacolod grade 10 student found dead in sugarcane field

BACOLOD CITY — A 15-year-old high school student who had been reported missing for two weeks was found dead yesterday in a sugarcane field at Hacienda San Roque, Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Daily Guardian has decided to withhold the name of the victim, a Grade 10 student from Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Police Captain Rosinie Cabuena, deputy chief of La Carlota City Police Station, said a hacienda worker discovered the victim’s decomposing body around 8:30 a.m. while cutting grass in the area, approximately 700 meters from the main road.

Upon hearing the news, the victim’s mother traveled to La Carlota City to verify if the body found was her missing daughter.

She positively identified her through her clothes and shoes, according to Cabuena.

The police reported that the victim was wearing a white t-shirt, white shorts, white socks, and white shoes.

Cabuena mentioned that the victim was last seen alive when she attended a half-day class in Bacolod on July 29. Her family reported her missing the following day after she failed to return home.

It remains unclear how the victim ended up in La Carlota City.

Cabuena noted that police are still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motive.

“We are backtracking to figure out how she ended up in La Carlota,” Cabuena said, adding that the victim had not informed her family about her activities before she went missing.

The victim’s body will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Cabuena added.
