The Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) is given twice a year by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Professional Teachers. The latest LEPT results were released in March 2025. Sixteen thousand two hundred eighty-two (16,282) out of 34,810, or 46.77%, passed the LEPT – Elementary.
Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) ranked No. 3 among schools with 50 to 99 examinees and with at least a 90% passing rate. The University of Antique ranked No. 7 among schools with 50 to 99 examinees and with at least a 90% passing rate. Of the 16,282 passers, 13,819 were first-timers while 2,463 were repeaters, meaning 8 out of 10 were first-timers. The passing rate of first-timers was 76.11%, while that of repeaters was 15%. The Western Visayas Region performed well in this examination, with a passing rate of 71.89%, higher than the national average.
In Western Visayas, 59 out of 79 higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region, or 74.7%, were considered high-performing, with passing averages higher than the national level. Most of the high-performing HEIs were public schools.
One thousand two hundred twelve (1,212) out of 1,686 examinees from Western Visayas passed the examination. On the other hand, 38,747 out of 62,225, or 62.27%, passed the LEPT – Secondary.
Thirty-two thousand six hundred twenty-four (32,624) of these were first-timers, while 6,123 were repeaters. Eight out of 10 examinees were first-timers.
The passing rate of first-timers was 82.5%, while that of repeaters was 27%.
The Philippine Normal University – Visayas (PNU-Visayas) ranked No. 1 among schools with 100 to 299 examinees and with at least a 90% passing rate. West Visayas State University – Main (WVSU-Main) ranked No. 3 in the same category. Bacolod City College and Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) ranked No. 5 and No. 7, respectively, among schools with 100 to 299 examinees and with at least a 90% passing rate.
Five schools in Western Visayas had board passers included in the list of successful examinees who garnered the 10 highest places at the national level: PNU-Visayas (one Rank 4 and one Rank 7), CHMSU-Talisay (one Rank 4), WVSU-Main (one Rank 5), University of Antique (one Rank 6), and Capiz State University – Pontevedra Campus (one Rank 6).
Western Visayas also performed well in the LEPT – Secondary, with a passing rate higher than the national average. Fifty-four out of 83 schools in the region, or 65%, were high-performing, with passing averages higher than the national level. Three thousand five hundred eighteen (3,518) out of 4,589 examinees in the region passed the examination.
Other high-performing schools in Western Visayas with 50 or more examinees and at least an 80% passing rate include: ISAT University – Miagao (89.86%), University of Antique – Main (89.17%), St. Anthony’s College – Antique (86.54%), Central Philippine State University – Main (85.44%), Northern Iloilo State University – Main (85.19%), Aklan State University – New Washington (84.70%), Guimaras State University (83.15%), Bago City College (81.94%), Capiz State University – Main (81.89%), Capiz State University – Pontevedra (81.3%), Capiz State University – Burias (80.46%), and Central Philippine State University – San Carlos (80%).
Finally, 76 out of 100 first-timers passed the LEPT – Elementary, while 82 out of 100 first-timers passed the LEPT – Secondary.
In Western Visayas, 86 out of 100 first-timers passed the LEPT – Elementary, while 87 out of 100 passed the LEPT – Secondary. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that the current Teacher Education curricula produced a positive outcome.
