Mid 2025 performance of schools in engineering licensure examinations

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Chemical Engineering announced that a total of 602 out of 3,058 examinees nationwide, or 75.34%, passed the May 2025 Chemical Engineers Licensure Examination given in nine testing centers nationwide.
University of the Philippines – Visayas (100% passing) and Central Philippine University (92.31%) ranked number 1 and 4, respectively, among higher education institutions (HEIs) with 10 or more examinees and at least an 80% passing percentage.
Aaron Paul dela Cruz Infante of UP Visayas ranked number 2 among the successful examinees who garnered the ten highest places in the said examination.
The region produced 63 passers out of 74 takers, or a 71.62% passing percentage.
The PRC Board of Civil Engineering announced that a total of 4,940 out of 16,913 examinees nationwide, or 29.2%, passed the April 2025 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination given in 19 testing centers nationwide.
At the regional level, the Western Visayas Region performed well, with a passing percentage higher than the national average.
The region produced 368 passers out of 1,111 takers, or a 33.12% passing percentage.
Twelve schools in the region out of 18, or 66.67%, performed well, with passing percentages higher than the national passing rate.
On the other hand, the PRC Board of Electrical Engineering announced that a total of 4,137 out of 6,738 examinees nationwide, or 61.4%, passed the April 2025 Registered Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination given in 16 testing centers.
Cheo Anthony Tayag Malco of ISAT University ranked number 5 among the successful examinees who garnered the ten highest places in the said examination.
The region produced 240 passers out of 433 takers, or a 55.43% passing percentage.
In April 2025, the PRC Board of Electronics Engineering announced that a total of 1,280 out of 2,820 examinees nationwide, or 52.12%, passed the Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination given in 12 testing centers nationwide.
TUP – Visayas ranked number 2 among higher education institutions (HEIs) with 30 or more examinees and at least an 80% passing percentage.
At the regional level, the Western Visayas Region performed well, with a passing percentage higher than the national average.
The region produced 131 passers out of 194 takers, or a 67.53% passing percentage.
Lastly, the PRC Professional Regulatory Board of Mechanical Engineering announced that a total of 3,089 out of 6,318 examinees nationwide, or 48.9%, passed the February 2025 Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination given in 13 testing centers nationwide.
At the regional level, the Western Visayas Region performed well, with a passing percentage higher than the national average.
The region produced 319 passers out of 569 takers, or a 56.06% passing percentage.
There were 477 first takers and 92 repeaters from the region who took the said examination.
The first-taker passing percentage was 62.26%, while the repeaters’ passing percentage was 23.91%.
Seven schools in Western Visayas out of 15, or 46.7%, performed well, with passing percentages higher than the national average.
In total, there were 14,048 passers out of 33,221 takers nationwide, or a 42.29% passing percentage, in the five engineering board examinations: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
At the regional level, there were 1,111 passers out of 2,381 takers, or a 46.7% passing percentage.
These engineering board examination results show that only 42 out of 100 engineering graduates nationwide who took the examinations were qualified to become licensed engineers.
There is, therefore, a need to review, revise, and improve our engineering curricula in the country today.
