There goes the first blockbuster trade of the NBA offseason.
On June 23, 2026, the basketball world went into a frenzy after the Miami Heat successfully acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in a six-player deal, along with several draft picks.
Both Eastern Conference teams came to terms with Milwaukee shipping away Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis in exchange for Miami’s Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis.
Aside from them, the Bucks will also receive the 2026 No. 13 draft pick, two unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2033 second-round pick.
The shocking trade ends Antetokounmpo’s 13-year campaign with Milwaukee, where he won two Most Valuable Player awards and the 2021 NBA Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The Greek Freak helped the franchise end a 50-year title drought when it defeated the Phoenix Suns in six games, securing its first league championship since 1971.
However, Antetokounmpo tasted successive disappointing playoff exits from 2022–2025, including three consecutive first-round losses against the Heat and the Indiana Pacers.
Last January, the Bucks already started to entertain some aggressive offers from Miami, New York, Golden State, and Minnesota.
As early as the second half of the 2025–26 NBA season, Milwaukee already braced itself for an Antetokounmpo exit.
“Sources said Antetokounmpo has informed the Bucks for months that he believes the moment has come to part ways after 12-plus years together, making a trade increasingly possible,” Charania wrote last January.
Now, all the pain and agony has ended as one of Antetokounmpo’s suitors finally brought out the pen and lured him to a deal he could not refuse.
Antetokounmpo will form one of the most lethal frontcourt tandems in the league with Bam Adebayo, who recently surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point performance with an 83-point masterpiece against the Washington Wizards for the second-best offensive performance in NBA history.
