Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) and One Meralco Foundation (OMF) have signed a PHP15-million Deed of Donation to fund community development projects in key areas of Cebu and Panay.
The ceremonial signing took place on July 23, marking a formal commitment to implement a series of programs aimed at improving health care, education, and infrastructure in host communities where MGEN subsidiary Global Business Power Corporation (MThermal) operates.
The donation will support initiatives such as the Adopt-A-Health Center program, educational scholarships for all academic levels, training workshops for barangay health workers, community outreach efforts, and local infrastructure development including the La Paz Plaza Football Lighting Project in Iloilo.
“At MGEN’s core is nation-building,” said MGEN President and CEO Manny V. Rubio. “Efforts like this are a reminder that the energy we generate must also translate into opportunities for students, families, and communities.”
MThermal President and CEO Jaime T. Azurin emphasized that the collaboration between MGEN and OMF extends beyond financial assistance.
“Through our collaboration with OMF, we are not merely providing financial support — we are fostering growth and opportunity within our communities in Cebu and Panay,” Azurin said.
OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao echoed the same sentiment, underscoring the real-world impact of the donation on people’s lives.
“This partnership is more than just funding,” Tarayao said. “It’s about the powerful stories of students getting a leg up in life through scholarships, families having access to better health care, and communities feeling a stronger connection with companies like MGEN.”
The partnership is part of Meralco’s larger corporate social responsibility initiative under its Sustainability Agenda, which aims to bring the benefits of development to marginalized communities across the country.
“This shows our shared commitment to progress and positive impact in the communities we have reached,” said Meralco Executive Vice President and COO Ronnie L. Aperocho. “This inspires us all the more to make positive change across the nation.”
